The second largest city of Belgium, Antwerp offers plenty of wonderful sights to the tourists. Lying along the River Scheldt, it is recognized as the metropolis by the inhabitants of this city. And if you plan to be there on a tour, you must spare good time to know it thoroughly. This is the second largest harbor of Europe and possesses some key attractions that can fascinate even someone with reluctance for travel.
Plenty of architectural excellence is the hallmarks of this splendid city. 16th and 17th century buildings impress every visitor. Unfortunately, the Second World War put some scar on the charming face of this old city. However, it comprises of many monuments for the admirers of ancient architecture. Numerous paintings of the famous painter of 17th century, Peter Paul Rubens also presents the city’s glorious past in interesting manner. 16th century was golden era of Antwerp city. Antwerp is also the diamond center of the world. So for ladies, it has always been venue of great interest. The diamond district around the railway station allures the jewelry lovers to visit it frequently. Many ‘Chassidic’ Jewish people also impart a special recognition to this area-they render this city flair different from other Belgian cities.
However, you cannot place this city in the category of ancient cities only. Now-a-days it defines some worldwide acclaimed fashion statements. It is coming up as one of the fashion cities because of the presence of many Flemish fashion designers.
