Bedrooms

La Vieille Maison has 4 bedrooms (2 dbl & 2 with 2 sets of bunks. Belle Vue has 2 (1Dbl & 1 with 2 sets bunkbeds) L'Hotel du Poulet has 1 dbl bed & 1 double sofa-bed. This gite is heated in winter, and air-conditioned in summer Cots are also aditionally available for any gite

Bathrooms

La Vieille Maison has 1 ground-floor shower room & 1 upstairs, which each has loo, sink & multi-jet power-shower which has a basin suitable for childrens bathing. Belle Vue has a large tiled power-shower room with loo & sink. L'Hotel du Poulet has a beautifully tiled, double shower room with loo & sink.

Living Rooms

Each living room is equipped with Satellite TV, DVD, Video players, HI-Fi unit, fans, and plenty of comfortable furniture. One of the sofa's in La Vieille Maison is a sofa-bed, as are the sofas in both Belle Vue & L'Hotel du Poulet. There is an extensive DVD & Video & book library available for you to use free of charge, and now Internet & E-mail access is available.

Kitchen

Each kitchen is fully equipped with all the utensils and crockery you need. Each kitchen has gas-cooker, microwave with grill, kettle, toaster, coffee-percolator. La Vieille Maison also has dishwasher & washing Machine. There is a washing machine available in the laundry area of the barn for guests in Belle Vue & L'Hotel du Poulet. And Belle Vue also has a dishwasher.

Other Rooms

Each gite has a "Mobicarte" telephone.There is a large covered games room in the barn with Laundry area, (drying umbrellas are located in the gardens near each gite), Bikes (only a limited supply of helmets) one of which has a child-seat, table-tennis, table football, darts, and raquets/balls/bats/boules/frisbees etc for all your outdoor games & activities

Cleaning & Linen

Bed-linen, bathroom towels, kitchen-towels are provided and are already included in the rental price.WE DO NOT PROVIDE POOL TOWELS, Linen is changed on Saturdays. A damage/cleaning deposit is required with your booking, from which a cleaning charge will be deducted if the gite is not cleaned and left in the condition in which you found it.

Accomodation Notes

All our properties are suitable for children, with a child-gate fixed at the top of the stairs in La Vieille Maison. The 5 acres are enclosed by fencing and trees. L'Hotel du Poulet is air-conditioned in summer and heated in winter. Heating in colder months is provided by a combination of wood-burning fire, electric radiators, gas-heaters and "Poele" heaters. There is an equestrian centre 1km away in the next village, and the region boasts many fishing holes & rivers, and several golf courses in the Poitou-Charentes Region. The area is riddled with sites of historic interest, eg the ancient Silver mines at Melle, the Abbey at Celles-sur-Belles and the 16th Century town of Charroux to name but a few. As well as Zoos, Beaches about an hour away, Futuroscope is 1 hr distant, and some beautiful scenery around Courtanne to explore on foot or bikes. Internet & E-mail access point available.

Wheelchair Access

All our properties are suitable for disabled access with the following points to bear in mind- The driveway is gravel. There are low steps at each doorway and one step down onto the patio from the kitchen in Belle Vue. There are either beds or sofa-beds on the ground floor of each property. The showers in La Vieille Maison are enclosed units with a deep basin suitable for childrens bathing. The shower room in L'Hotel du Poulet is a fully tiled "wet-room" design with no steps. It is large enough for a person to shower whilst seated. There is a step up onto the swimming pool terrace. All doors are wide enough to permit standard size wheelchair access.

Outside

The 3 gites at Courtanne are situated within the owners 5 acre property. The majority of the land is available for you to use. Each gite is equipped with patio furniture and its own barbeque. The fenced, gated & alarmed pool is 13m long x 5.5m wide. It is 1m at the shallow end and 2m at the deep. There is a safety ledge around the circumference of the pool and a solar-heated shower on the patio, which has tables, chairs, umbrellas and sunloungers. The pool is heated and is saltwater. It is shared between the gite guests and the owners family.

Further Details

There are hypermarkets in Niort & poitiers. Smaller supermarkets are located in nearby Chef-Boutonne (9kms), Sauzé-Vaussais (6kms) and Melle (20kms). Some supermarkets are open Sunday mornings. There are many restaurants in the area and the owners will be only too pleased to make reservations on your behalf. (One of the restaurants has a take-away service,see our website for details)

Local Information

Courtanne is a very small hammeau comprising only a dozen or so houses. It is very quiet and rural, yet not far from busy shopping towns and lots of historical places of interest to explore. We doubt that you will have ever seen starry skies like the ones above Courtanne on a clear night. Ther are stunning, with the Milky Way clearly visible, and if you're lucky, shooting stars! We are also rich in wildlife and birdwatching becomes a must for even those who have never "twitched" before!

Leisure Facilities

Courtanne Gites has most things you could think of for a perfect family holiday. Film & Book libraries, satellit TV,internet access, telephones ,Bikes, Raquets, balls,boules, frisbees, ping-pong, darts, table-football, and lots of space to play in. We are 100kms from the coast, central to Cognac, Poitiers, Niort & Limoges, and within a few kilometres of the market towns of Chef-Boutonne, Sauzé-Vaussais, Melle, Ruffec & Lezay. There is a 4m deep open-air swimming pool nearby, as well as a swimming lake, and a couple of indoor pools nearby as well. We have an excellent equestrian centre in our nearest village for beginners or the experienced rider.

Booking Notes

We require a (non-returnable) 20% deposit to secure a reservation, with the balance payable at least 6 weeks before the holiday start date. Booking forms are sent by e-mail with availability confirmation, which we ask are printed & signed & forwarded to us with the deposit payment. We accept credit card payments using PayPal

Changeover day

Changeover day is normally Saturday. But we will give consideration to other days in low season, and 3 or 4 day rentals are available. See the tariffs page on our own website for details.
