A comfortable house, tastefully restored to retain some of its original 18C features. The cottage is situated in a tranquil hamlet in rolling farmland on the edge of the forest of Gresigne, close to the famous Gorges of the River Aveyron and only one hour's drive from Toulouse International Airport. Residents of La Cordonnerie also have the sole use of a large garden and a 6 x12 metre swimming pool. The hamlet is very close to the pretty villages of Vaour and Penne. The busy medieval market town of St Antonin-Noble-Val, a centre for canoeing with a delightful weekly market is on the riverside just 8 miles away. It is an ideal location from which to visit the many regional historic sites.

The spacious living/dining room with views over the countryside has a convertible double bed-settee and plenty of comfortable seating with satellite tv video and stereo unit. A range of videotapes is available in the cottage as well as a limited range of mainly classical music cd's.

A modern kitchen area is filled with matching units and includes a fridge-freezer, gas and electric stove, oven with grill, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and other electrical appliances, such as toaster, electric kettle and coffeemachine. A full set of pans is available as well as dinner/tea service, glasses and cutlery setting for 8.

The house next door is owned by ourselves and can be let out together with La Cordonnerie, offering accommodation to a further 9 people. The cottage will be cleaned prior to arrival of the occupants, beds made up and clean linen & towels provided. Cleaning services offered during the let can be arranged after discussion with the owners. During the rental period the renters are responsible for washing and cleaning bedlinen and towels as needed.

All rooms have individual electric wall heaters, making the accommodation especially suitable for longer lets. A telephone is available for local calls only (a French phone card is recommendable).The access to the cottage is via steps to the private balcony/outdoor terrace and into the livingroom/kitchen. The masterbedroom is on the 2nd floor with lovely views over the country side. The twin bedroom is on the ground floor and can be reached via internal stairway or direct from the groundfloor.

We regret this property is not wheelchair accessible as there are stairs to all rooms.

Outside there is a private balcony terrace for sitting and dining al fresco with a barbeque area, patio furniture, chairs and a small secluded garden. Residents of La Cordonnerie also have the use of a larger garden and a fenced 6 x12 metre swimming pool with diving board, pool house and sun loungers. The pool can be floodlit for swimming on warm nights. The garden has open areas, bordered with acacia-, fig-, walnut and other trees and shrubs and has pleasant views toward the countryside. The pool is not heated so the season lasts from may to approx. mid october.

The nearest local shop is in Vaour or in Penne, within 5km distance. Supermarkets as well as the nearest bank can be found as local as St Antonin (12 km), and within 25 km, in Caussade and Montauban.The local wines are from Cahors, Montauban and further down. Taste the many interesting Gaillac wines produced from small vineyards from Campagnac (only 7 miles away) to Gaillac and Albi and for a meal out a wide choice is available, from very local to within half and hour's drive.

Located between the cities of Cahors, Albi and Montauban and within easy reach of the famous " Bastide" towns of BruniqueI, Puycelci, Castelnau de Montmiral, Larroque, Penne, Cahuzac and Cordes, it is an ideal location from which to visit the many historic sites in the region. Albi, a beautiful regional capital on the river Tarn, is very worthwile a visit with its historic cathedral and museum dedicated to the artist Toulouse Lautrec. The fairy city of Carcassonne is 2 hours drive south, the Pyrenees can be reached in 2 hours. The Mediteranean is 3 hours drive away.

The surrounding countryside is rich in wildlife, with a wide variation of landscape from cultivated fields to a forest that is said to be the least polluted in Europe. Walkers can use the nearby GR46, or the many tracks and paths which lead off in many directions. The quiet road and tracks are ideal for cyclists, with a terrain to suit the reasonably fit. Several bicycles are kept on the premises and are provided at no extra cost. St.Antonin has several centres for canoeing on the beautiful river Aveyron. Other sports catered for nearby are horseriding, caving, tennis and golf. Leisure centres are approx 30 mins drive away.

Rental includes bedlinen and towels, electricity and gas. A deposit of £150 will be required for the property on booking reservation; the deposit will be returnable upon leaving the property in good order. Payment of the full rental fee is due at least 28 days before the start of the rental period and cheques should have cleared before that time.
